According to Modern Ghana, Gilbert Abeiku Aggrey Santana, Deputy Chief Executive of the Ghana Tourism Authority, has launched a new podcast focused on African tourism narratives. He described it as a vehicle for Africans to tell their own stories about the continent's tourism sector, rather than leaving representation to global media.
According to Modern Ghana, "Gilbert Abeiku Aggrey Santana, the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), has launched a new podcast aimed at amplifying African voices and reshaping global perceptions of the continent's tourism industry."
The podcast, titled Tourism Destination Africa, represents a direct institutional response to what Santana identifies as a narrative deficit. "The podcast, titled Tourism Destination Africa, would be an informative, educational and entertaining platform dedicated to changing conversations about tourism, travel and hospitality in Ghana and across Africa."
The launch arrives amid measurable momentum in African tourism. According to figures released by UN Tourism, Africa welcomed nearly 81 million international visitors in 2025, up from 75.4 million in 2024, making Africa the fastest-growing tourism region in the world.
Our read: a senior official at a state tourism body choosing a podcast to carry the continent's story is a sign of how far the format has travelled beyond entertainment.
